TAMARA ŁEMPICKA A ART DÉCO

Specjalne miejsce na stałej wystawie zajmuje twórczość  Tamary Łempickiej – jednej z najwybitniejszych artystek światowego formatu.

Choć Tamara Łempicka (1898–1980) przez lata uchodziła za ikonę art déco, to twórczość i postawa życiowa malarki dalece wykraczają poza sformułowania ukute przez teoretyków sztuki. Odpowiadają za to manifestowanym w epoce postulatom nowoczesności. Zmysł obserwacji otaczającego ją świata łączyła z niezwykłą precyzją wypowiedzi artystycznej, tradycję z nowoczesnością, a sztukę z modą.

TAMARA LEMPICKA AND ART DECO

A special place in the permament exhibition is devoted to Tamara de Lempicka – one of the world’s most outstanding artists.

Although Tamara de Lempicka (1898–1980) has been regarded as an art déco icon for many years, her creativity and lifestyle largely surpassed any constraints outlined by theorists. The Polish artist seamlessly moved between various definitions of modernity, a movement that flourished in the interwar period. The artist mastered the sensory experience of her surroundings with a precise artistic expression, combining tradition with modernity and fashion with art. She approached her artistic career with a distinctively clear vision, utilizing the most innovative means of expression. Tamara de Lempicka was regarded as one of the key figures of emancipation in the interwar period.

The exhibition of de Lempicka’s work is one of the largest of collections of its kind in the world. This unique collection consists of over thirty objects, including: oil paintings, drawings and prints. It is a cross-sectional view of de Lempicka’s legacy, as alongside the well-known compositions from the peak period of artist’s work, exhibited are extremely rare studio works, as well as abstract paintings from the late years of the painter’s life.

The extraordinary character of the exposition is enhanced by unique furniture from Tamara de Lempicka’s Parisian studio aat 7 rue Méchain. It was one of the best known art studios of 1930s Paris. The furnishing was designed by the famous architect Robert Mallet-Stevens and de Lempicka’s younger sister Adrienne Gorska.
